Galveston Trip Logistics

Isaiah 58:12 will be leaving on a disaster relief effort to Galveston, Texas, to assist Hurricane Ike victims.  The hurricane damaged or destroyed over 600 miles of Texas coastline, 10 to 30 miles deep.  The victims of Hurricane Ike must now rebuild their lives, as well as their homes, and that is what Isaiah 58:12 is all about.  We minister to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of disaster victims.

Isaiah 58:12 is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization which was created to facilitate and administer disaster relief.  Over the last three years we have brought provisions, rebuilt homes and built homes from the ground up in Mississippi for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Anyone who would like to join us in this effort is welcome.  I will be arriving in Galveston in the afternoon on January 1, and leaving on January 8.  People will be leaving from Plainwell, Lansing, and North Carolina on January 1 -3 and staying until the end of the next week (Jan. 11).  You can leave when I do, or you may stay through the weekend of January 11, 2009.  I will give you exact departure times & places when I have the final number of volunteers. Housing will be provided as well as three meals a day.  The cost of staying at this facility is $18 a full day.  You may contact me by going to our web site www.Isaiah5812.org or call me at 269-217-3272.

 ACCOMIDATIONS

The Galveston Reception Center is in need of all the volunteers that can come; they have a huge task before them to rebuild and repair their community.  We will be staying at the Alamo School located at 5200 N ½ in Galveston. TX 77551.  The female facilities are upstairs and the male facilities are on the main floor.  We will be hanging drywall, taping, and sanding.  We will also be doing some roofing and some general cleaning up and out of damaged homes.  They pretty much are in need of anything we are able to do.

 WHAT TO BRING

You will need to bring a sleeping bag, sufficient work clothes (enough for 7 to 9 days), as well as clothes to travel back and forth.  The temperatures have been averaging in the low 70s, but it gets down in the 40s at night.  Bring clothes for warm and cool weather, layered clothing would be ideal.  Bring hats, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, tools such as hammers, drills and screw-guns, dry-wall tools, roofing tools, circle saws, razor knifes, tool pouches, paint brushes and roller frames, electrical and plumbing tools, basic hand tools, etc.  If you have access to air tools and a compressor, those are very important when framing and roofing.

We will have both skilled and unskilled people on the trip and we will mix them together. If you have a skill, please let me know but do not let your lack of skills prevent you from coming for those an enormous amount to do for both skilled and unskilled.

We need your help to make this effort a success, please pray for us and if possible send a tax-deductible donation to "Isaiah 58:12".  The more resources we have, the more families we can help.  Checks may be mailed to me at 1928 Sheen Hollow, Otsego, MI  49078.  Thank you for your generosity of time and resources!

Take care & God bless,
